Box Score JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps men's basketball team took care of business at home by taking down Sewanee, 83-77 on Sunday inside the Hangar Dome.
Millsaps (13-10, 4-8 SAA) dominated in the paint with 52 points and capitalized on Sewanee's (9-15, 5-8 SAA) turnovers, converting them into 22 points. Despite a strong second-half effort from the Tigers, the Majors maintained their lead throughout the contest as they tamed their opponents.
Senior Caleb Kent led the Majors, tying a career-high 24 points while also converting 11 of 16 of his field goal attempts. Junior Jaxon Toney contributed a double-double, posting 12 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
Classmate Cameron Lumar added 15 points, making six of 10 shots, including one 3-pointer. Junior Colt Donley made all six of his free throws and recorded two steals to support the defensive effort.
Junior Davion James also had a solid performance against the Tigers, James scored 11 points, three assists, a trio of rebounds and two steals.
Millsaps opened the first half with a strong performance, establishing control early with a 5–0 burst that included a 3-pointer by Lumar at 18:13.
The home team capitalized on Swanee's turnovers, scoring 15 points off turnovers and maintaining pressure throughout the half.
With 15:37 minutes remaining on the clock, Toney found his way, slamming down a powerful dunk to keep the Majors ahead, 10-6.
Millsaps continued their heat check on the court as Kent played a pivotal role, scoring multiple times in the paint to extend the lead.
The Majors concluded the first half leading 42–31, demonstrating effective scoring from both the starters and the bench.
The host extended their lead with a strong start to the second half, highlighted by Lumar's fast-break layup at 18:45 and James' 3-pointer at 17:40, pushing the score to 49–35.
Millsaps maintained their momentum through efficient shooting and key defensive plays, including a steal by senior Dakota Gasca leading to another layup by Lumar at 12:22.
Despite the Tigers' attempts to close the gap, Millsaps' offense kept the pressure on, with Kent contributing a series of important baskets in the paint and Donley's two-handed dunk to keep the fans on their feet.
The game concluded with Millsaps holding an 83–77 lead to tame the Tigers on Sunday in an impressive win.
