Men’s Basketball Tops Oglethorpe to Secure SAA Postseason Berth

Majors Down Stormy Petrels, 97-71 on Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps college men's basketball team secured a commanding, 97-71 victory over Oglethorpe University on Saturday inside the Hangar Dome. 

Millsaps (15-10, 6-8 SAA) honored four seniors prior to the start, including Dakota GascaMack GortonCaleb Kent and RJ VanBeber
 
The Majors dominated inside with a 66-24 points-in-the-paint disparity. They also had a significant contribution from the bench, adding 56 points. 

Oglethorpe (6-19, 3-11 SAA) kept pace early, but the Majors pulled away in the second half, outscoring its opponent, 49-32 after intermission. 
 
Junior Jaxon Toney led the Majors with 20 points, converting 10-of-11 shots, and added 10 rebounds and two blocks to post a double-double against the Stormy Petrels. He also posted two blocks and a season-high three assists. 
 
Senior Caleb Kent contributed 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and collected eight rebounds. 
 
Junior Cameron Lumar balled out on the day with 15 points, two assists, and one steal. 
 
Gasca also recorded five assists and two steals, finishing with 11 points. 
 
Junior Colt Donley posted 13 points and one assist, while shooting an impressive 6-of-7 from the floor. 
 
As a team, the Majors collectively shot 60.9 percent (42-of-69) from the field. 
 
Oglethorpe started strong and worked a 26-17 advantage with 11:35 left in the first half. 
 
Donley responded later with a mini 5-0 run to pull the Majors behind by a single point. Freshman Luke LeFors added a 3-pointer to give Millsaps its second lead of the contest at 35-34. 
 
The advantage continued to swell in the Majors' favor as the difference grew to as many as a dozen points. Millsaps went into halftime out front, 48-39. 
 
The lead later grew to 20 points with 10:44 remaining before the disparity further cemented at 31 points, with 8:32 to go. 
 
Millsaps was able to see 15 players control the floor as the Majors secured a 97-71 triumph on Senior Day. 
 
The Majors await who they will face in the 2026 SAA Men's Basketball Championship on Thursday. The No. 4 seed will face the No. 5 seed at 4 p.m. CT, while the No. 3 seed takes on the No. 3 seed at 6 p.m. CT.
