Millsaps Women's Flag Football Ready to Make History

Majors Host Huntingdon in State's First-Ever Collegiate Contest on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. – The wait is finally over as the Millsaps College women's flag football program begins its 2026 season, hosting the first-ever collegiate game in the state, on Sunday, March 22.

The calendar features five games across three dates. Millsaps opens its club campaign by hosting Huntingdon College in the first contest. The game is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Harper Davis Field.

The Majors will feature a roster of 13 student-athletes in its inaugural club season. They feature several familar faces to Millsaps fans, with nine participating in other sports.

Head coach Felicia Ellis and assistant coach Lauren Samford expect a basketball trio to make an impact right away. Senior Elyse Warren and freshman Ky King should have ample opportunities in pass catching. Additionally, freshman Ana Cerniglia should split time at quarterback, while sophomore women's soccer standout Suzanna Busbee will also make play calls. Both Cerniglia and Busbee have experience with flag football prior to attending Millsaps.

Also expect four additional women's soccer players to compete hard on both sides of the ball for 48 minutes each game, including senior Ella Smithweck, freshman Jordyn Templeton, classmate Keila Torres, and sophomore Abby Wiard.

Other multi-sport athletes feature women's track and field junior thrower Amari Jackson-Wright, and women's basketball sophomore Dove Leach.

Rounding out the roster in their first sports includes senior DJ McNeir, classmate and cheerleader Kailey Simone Spann, and sophomore Taylor Sutton.

Millsaps has announced it will join the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) for the 2027 season and women's flag football will become the 19th varsity sport.
