Baseball Wins Series Finale against No. 20 Rhodes, 7-3

Majors Bettered by Lynx, 10-6 in Game One, Fall 7-4 in Game Two; Win on Sunday.

JACKSON, Miss.  – The Millsaps College baseball team wrapped up their weekend series against No. 20 Rhodes College, falling 10–6 in Game One and 7–4 in Game Two before battling back strong to defeat the Lynx 7–3 on Sunday in Game Three at Twenty Field. 

Game One: Rhodes 10, Millsaps 6, L

Millsaps battled through nine innings but came up short against the Lynx, falling 10–6 in Game One. 
  
The Majors showed resilience at the plate, recording timely hits and multiple scoring bursts, but the Lynx used a pair of big innings to secure the victory. 
  
Freshman Hudson Moberly led the Majors offensively, going 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, and a run scored while reaching base in three of his four plate appearances. 
  
Sophomore Carston Williams finished 2-for-5 in Game One, led by a double, a single, one RBI, and a run.  
  
Senior Mason Morgan added an impressive performance at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a double while adding a single alongside two RBIs. 
  
On the mound, freshman Dylon Lozano and senior Weston Myers provided a solid effort in relief, combining two innings while allowing just one hit and a walk.  
  
Millsaps struck first in the bottom of the opening inning as Williams singled and advanced to second on a fielding error.  
  
Moments later, Morgan delivered a double down the left field line to bring Williams home to give the Majors an early 1-0 lead. 
  
The Lynx threatened in the top of the second inning, but senior pitcher Sam Thomas worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam to strand three runners on base and preserve the lead.  
  
Rhodes found its rhythm in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on four hits to take a 2-1 advantage.  
  
The Majors quickly responded in the bottom half as senior EJ Ousley launched a solo home run to left field, evening the score at 2-2.  
  
The fifth inning turned into an offensive surge for both teams. Rhodes plated four runs in the top half to take a 6-2 lead, but Millsaps answered with three runs of its own in the bottom.

Sophomore Kyle Veal Jr. doubled to score Moberly, Morgan followed with an RBI single to bring Veal home, and sophomore Wes Carr added another RBI single to score junior Wesley Grant, cutting the deficit to 6-5.  
  
Rhodes responded once again, capitalizing on momentum with four runs in the sixth inning and adding another in the seventh to extend its lead to 10-5. 
  
The Majors attempted a late rally in the ninth inning as freshman Carter Guillory delivered a pinch-hit single, and classmate Michael Griggs drew a walk. Williams then doubled to add one more run, but the comeback effort fell short. 
  
Millsaps continued to compete until the final out of the contest, ultimately dropping Game One to Rhodes, 10-6. 


Game Two: Rhodes 7, Millsaps 4, L

Millsaps saw strong offensive production early in the game, while Rhodes Lynx used timely hitting in the middle and late innings to secure the series' victory. 
 
Carr led the Majors on the plate, going 2-for-5 with two singles and a run scored. 
 
Grant delivered a key offensive performance, finishing with a bases-clearing triple, two RBIs, and a walk. 
 
Sophomore Christian Kretzer reached base consistently, going 1-for-2 with a single, two walks, and an RBI. 
 
On the mound, sophomore John Montour turned in an impressive relief outing, pitching 5.2 innings with six strikeouts while allowing just four hits and two runs to keep Millsaps within reach. 
 
Classmate Cam Cressend got the start and opened the game strong with a scoreless first inning. 
 
The Majors wasted no time offensively, striking early in the bottom of the first. Williams singled and advanced to second on an errant pickoff attempt, followed by a single from Carr. 
 
Grant then delivered a triple off the centerfield wall, scoring both runners to give Millsaps a 2-0 lead. Moments later, Ousley reached on an error, allowing Grant to score and extend the lead to 3-0. 
 
Cressend worked through a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, striking out three batters—including two consecutive strikeouts—to keep the Lynx scoreless and preserve the lead. 
 
Rhodes responded in the top of the third with a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3-2. 
 
Millsaps answered in the bottom half, drawing multiple walks from Grant, Morgan, Ousley, and Kretzer, with Kretzer also earning an RBI walk to push the lead to 4-2. 

The Lynx continued to apply pressure, plating three runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead and forcing the Majors to turn to their bullpen.  
 
Montour entered and stabilized the game, delivering multiple strong innings in relief. 
 
Rhodes added two more runs in the seventh inning on a double and a sacrifice bunt, extending its advantage to 7-4. 
 
Millsaps attempted to rally in the eighth inning after Ousley was hit by a pitch and Kretzer drew a walk, but the Lynx pitching staff held firm to close out the game. 
 
The Majors showed early energy and resilience but ultimately fell short, 7-4, as Rhodes secured Game Two triumph. 


Game Three: Millsaps 7, Rhodes 3, W

Senior Andrew Bradley started on the mound for the Majors, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing three hits; one earned run to become the winning pitcher, holding a 3-1 record on the season. 
 
Bradley issued three walks, struck out one batter, and threw 76 pitches, 40 of which were strikes.  

Sophomore Fred Fields followed with 4.2 innings of relief, surrendering six hits and two earned runs, walking five and striking out one.  

Freshman Jackson Devey closed the game, pitching a scoreless inning and securing the save with seven strikes out of ten pitches thrown in the top of the ninth. 
 
Morgan drove in three runs and added a double, highlighting his impact at the plate. 
 
Ousley collected two hits and drove in two runs, contributing significantly to the team's offense. Carr scored twice and added a double, showcasing his ability to get on base.  
 
Williams also scored twice and recorded two hits, bolstering the team's overall performance. 

Millsaps opened their Sunday noon start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Carr recorded a leadoff double as Williams advanced to first base prior to blasting a single through the left side.  
  
Grant loaded the bases with a hit by pitch, Morgan drove in two runs with a double, and Ousley added an RBI single to give Millsaps the boost they needed.  
  
Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Morgan, as Millsaps took a 4-0 lead.  
  
Ousley then advanced to second on a wild pitch and Veal Jr. Singled to left field to move Ousley to third base.  
  
Kretzer then reached first on a fielder's choice, Veal Jr. advanced to second, and Ousley, making a run for home, would be tagged out on an unassisted play by the Lynx pitcher.  
  
In the second inning, Millsaps added three more runs. Carr walked and Williams singled up the middle. 

Grant reached first on an error by the Lynx third baseman, Williams advanced to second and Carr was placed on third. 

Moments later Grant moved to second on a passed ball, Williams moved to third on a passed ball, Williams then scored on a passed ball to move ahead of the Lynx, 5-1. 
  
Morgan's sacrifice fly brought in Williams, and Ousley's sacrifice fly added one more. Ousley closed the inning with a line out to right field on a sacrifice fly to score Grant on an unearned run to expand their margin, 7-1. 
 
At the top of the third inning, a Lynx batter reached first on a fielder's choice. Williams threw to Carr to retire the lead runner, and Thomas then relayed the ball to Kretzer to record the second out, giving the Majors two consecutive putouts in a crucial moment.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cross singled to left field and stole second base.

Rhodes scored two runs in the sixth inning on a two-RBI double narrowing the Majors' lead to 7–3.

In the final inning, Carr handled a pop-up, and the Majors' defense turned into a 5–4–3 double play to seal the victory over the Lynx on Sunday.

Millsaps maintained its lead for the remainder of the game, securing a 7–3 victory over the Lynx.
