COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Millsaps men's soccer team continues to deliver a strong message on the season, propelling past MUW, 8-0, on Monday night at the Roger Short Soccer Complex.
Millsaps came into tonight's contest against MUW well prepared, as they showed no mercy against the host. The Majors finished with 13 shots and eight shots on goal, while MUW had three shots and two on frame.
Going against their non-conference opponents tonight, junior Harrison Williams, sophomores Myles Walden (assist) and Brady Bell, alongside freshmen Carson Dwyer, Dakota Vann, and Reid Brenner, each found the back of the net, helping the Majors leave Columbus with a dominant victory.
Junior Alden Romano and freshman Zachary Diamond also played a huge role in helping the Majors defeat the Owls, with both players recording an assist.
Their selfless play and ability to create scoring opportunities for their teammates helped Millsaps get the job done as a whole.
Junior Alden Davenport played all 90 minutes as the Majors' starting goalkeeper, making two saves to record the shutout. The Houston, Texas, native played a strong game in goal, helping keep the Owls off the scoreboard as he stood on business.
The Majors disrupted the Owls in the first half as Dwyer stormed past MUW to score early, giving Millsaps a 1-0 lead with a shot into the lower-right corner of the net scoring his first goal of his collegiate career.
Walden was credited with the assist with 14:27 remaining in the half after finding an open path for Dwyer to score.
With MUW's goalkeeper struggling to contain the Majors' attack, Harrison drilled a shot into the lower center of the goal to extend Millsaps' advantage to 2-0 as the Owls continued to struggle offensively.
Millsaps continued to shine as Brenner found the back of the net with 32:29 remaining in the half, extending the Majors' lead to 3-0.
Bell added to the scoring barrage with another strike, giving Millsaps a commanding 4-0 advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Majors came out on a roll, while MUW's physical play landed the Owls in foul trouble.
Vann capitalized on the opportunity, converting a penalty kick to extend Millsaps' advantage to 5-0 as his teammates celebrated with him.
The Majors continued to apply pressure, posting another threat as they maintained control of the match.
Walden looked to show the Majors what he was capable of, finding the bottom of the net in the 65th minute as Millsaps continued to pile on against its opponents.
Millsaps added its final pair of tallies late in the second half with an MUW own goal after two Owls defenders accidentally sent the ball into their own net, awarding the Majors two extra points as they cruised to an impressive 8-0 triumph.
