PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Millsaps College men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 0-0 draw against Pensacola Christian College on Friday night at Eagle Field.
Freshmen Reid Brenner, Zachary Diamond, and Justin Long, along with graduate student Jannik Stockfisch, all made their first starts for the Majors tonight against Pensacola Christian College in their season debut.
The Majors kept the match scoreless behind six saves from sophomore Edward Steinwand in his starting camapaign on the season, while Pensacola Christian (NCCAA) of the National Christian College Athletic Association finished with 14 shots, including six on goal.
Millsaps generated 11 shots, including three on goal, and held the Eagles to just four shots after halftime, keeping their opponents out of rhythm.
The men's team executed early with a corner kick in the third minute. Moments later, Millsaps built back-to-back kicks from junior Harrison Williams and sophomore Raul Blandon before Steinwand collected his third save at 14:33 to keep the Majors' momentum going.
Looking for opportunities to score inside the box, Brenner and Diamond and junior Ellis Dykes each recorded a shot as Millsaps generated pressure through the middle of the first half.
The Majors earned consecutive corner kicks in the 26th and 27th minutes before junior Kaleb Wilkins put a shot on frame in the 29th minute to put tension on the Eagles.
The contest continued to grow physical, with Millsaps senior Braden Walters, freshman Dakota Vann and Williams each receiving yellow cards. The visitors held off a late PCC push that included multiple shots and corner kicks before heading into halftime with the match remaining scoreless.
In the second half, Millsaps kept Pensacola Christian off the scoreboard while continuing trying to stiff the host from scoring. The Majors pushed forward from 46:30 to 51:21, generating shots from sophomore Christian Lopez, Blandon, and Brenner around a corner kick.
Steinwand made his final save of the matchup at 68:35, and Millsaps quickly returned to the attacking end, earning three corners before Wilkins and freshman Carson Dwyer added shots between the 72nd and 74th minutes.
Pensacola Christian entered a late corner and two shots after the 83rd minute, but Millsaps saw out the scoreless after the Eagles recorded a pair of fouls to close out the contest in a draw against the Majors.
The Majors will be back in action on Sunday to face the University States SportS University in Daphne, Ala., beginning at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available and the game will streamed via FloCollege.
