An exciting new era begins for tennis in Jackson as Agnes Gee is tabbed to become the next Millsaps men’s and women’s tennis coach, the Millsaps Athletics Department announced in late fall 2021.
Gee is one of only two players in Ole Miss women’s tennis history to earn All-America status four times, she garnered several International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings and has served as a tennis coaching professional in Mississippi for the last 20 years. In 2009, she was inducted into the M-Club Hall of Fame at Ole Miss.
“I am extremely honored and excited to be the next head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Millsaps College,” said Gee. “I look forward to this new and exciting opportunity for me personally and I can’t wait to work with both programs. Our goal is to keep striving to push our student-athletes and programs to the next level.”
As a coach, Gee has been a fixture in the area. Beginning in 2001, she was a freelance tennis professional in Oxford and Tupelo, Miss. From 2002 through 2011, she became an assistant tennis professional at the River Hills Club of Jackson.
Gee then worked as the head tennis pro for the Racquet Club at Cypress Lake (2011-14) as well as the Ridgeland Tennis Center (2014-16). She most recently spent the previous five years returning to teach and organize events at the River Hills Club once more in Jackson.
Gee attended the University of Mississippi from 1996-2001 where she became one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. She powered the Rebels to their first-ever SEC Tournament Championship, an NCAA Quarterfinal berth and final national ranking of No. 6 in 1999. Ole Miss also reached the national team quarterfinals in 1998 thanks in large part to Gee.
Additionally, she earned All-SEC honors four times and finished her career with 122 wins – second all-time at Ole Miss. As a sophomore in 1997, she finished ranked No. 2 in singles and No. 3 in doubles, becoming the only player to be ranked top five in singles and doubles that season. Gee posted a final record of 43-12 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in singles and doubles.
She was named a 1999 Honda Sports Award finalist, the 1999 Mississippi Female Amateur Player of the Year, secured both the 1997 Rolex South Regional Singles and Doubles championships and was the 1996 SEC Singles champion.
Playing professionally between 1988-1995, Gee reached No. 387 in the ITF Singles World rankings, No.180 in Doubles and No. 32 for Junior Singles.
In 2000, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and obtained a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law a year later.
Born Agnes Muzamel in Budapest, Hungary, she has two children: Alexander and Gabriella Grace.
