Majors Remain Undefeated in SAA with Blowout of Lynx

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Millsaps Majors football team was back on the road on Saturday as they took on Rhodes College. The Majors stayed perfect in SAA play thanks to big days from Senior Quarterback Garrett Pinciotti and Junior Receiver Zander Romano

The Majors charged to a 26-0 lead and the aerial assault continued as Pinciotti threw five of his six touchdown passes in the first half.  The scoring started early as the Majors took the opening possession 73 yards capping it with a 12 yard touchdown reception by Matt Wahl.  The Majors would then score on the next three drives with touchdown passes to Romano, juniors Jonathan Moore and Taylor Morris.

The Lynx would get on the board thanks to a 25 yards touchdown pass from Tyler Perkins.  After the Majors fumbled on the ensuing kickoff the Lynx would drive just eight yards and bring the score to 26-13 just before half.  With only 1:25 remaining in the first half Pinciotti would lead the Majors down the field ending the drive with his fifth touchdown pass, and second to Romano.

In the second half the Majors defense would not surrender another point while the offense added fourth quarter touchdown throws from Pinciotti and senior Konner Joplin.  Pinciotti would finish the day with 463 yards through the air, while adding 20 more on the ground.  Romano was on the receiving end of seven tosses including two touchdowns and a total of 133 yards, leading all receivers in all those categories.  Sophomore Trevor King added another receiving touchdown and 76 more yards while pulling in seven receptions of his own.

The Majors defensive line continued their dominance racking up three sacks and five and a half tackles for loss.  Sophomore Zach Bell led the defense with seven tackles, two and a half tackles for loss as well as one and a half sacks. The defense allowed only 270 total yards of offense and did not allow a third or fourth down conversion.  Freshman Eric Martin and Senior Russell Pellichino both added an interception as the Majors forced three total turnovers.

The Majors will head into next week's matchup at Trinity University ranked just outside of the top 25.
