Juan Joseph Memorial Award
Juan Joseph '09
Each year a member of the Millsaps College football team is honored with the Juan Joseph Memorial Award. Started in 2016 in memory of Juan Joseph ‘09, a former Millsaps College standout quarterback, father, husband, coach, and mentor; the award provides recognition and honor to the most outstanding returning football student-athlete that exemplifies the altruistic spirit on and off the field that Joseph exhibited in his life.
During his playing career at Millsaps, Joseph played in 38 games for the Majors from '05 to '08, throwing for 9,295 yards (244.6 yards/game) and 87 touchdowns (2.3 touchdowns/game) with only 27 interceptions at a 63.4% completion percentage. He holds the single-game school record of six touchdown passes and also holds single-season records for passing yards, 3,463, and touchdowns, 32. He still claims the Millsaps and SCAC record of 149 straight completions and his 9,832 yards of total offense also stand as a school and conference record. Joseph led a resurgence in the Majors program, leading the team to consecutive SCAC titles, including the best season in program history his senior year in 2008 at 11-1. He was the recipient of the Conerly Trophy, given annually to the best player in the state of Mississippi. Joseph earned his degree in Business in 2009 and an M.B.A degree from the Else School of Management at Millsaps in 2011.
