JACKSON - The Millsaps Majors Volleyball Team opened up Southern Athletic Association play at home against Birmingham-Southern in front of a wild crowd. Mistakes would cost the Majors as Birmingham-Southern picked up a 25-22, 25-21, 26-24 on Wednesday evening.

The Majors (6-2, 0-1 SAA) came out on fire behind a white hot crowd as they jumped out to a 7-3 lead thanks to kills by seniors Raven Scott and Sarah Zito. The Panthers (5-4, 1-0 SAA) settled in and came back to score the next four points and tie the game at seven.

From there, both teams exchanged points throughout the first set as neither team could get a lead bigger then two. However, after Millsaps got the score down to 18-17, BSC scored four straight points to extend their lead and eventually finish the match off, winning 25-22. 

In set two, the Majors struggled with errors, committing 11 during the set; however, the Majors hung tough as the teams were tied at 16-16 with neither team gaining more then a two point advantage. Birmingham-Southern then rattled off four straight points again to take a 20-16 lead. Millsaps closed the gap back down to 22-20 thanks to kills form Scott, senior Kasey Laird, and senior Claire Aime, but BSC finished the match off, taking three of the next four points to win 25-21.

Millsaps jumped all over BSC in set three, jumping out to a 17-10 lead thanks to great play from sophomores Taylor Zeigler and Caroline McKey as well as the seniors. However, BSC closed the gap to get within three late in the set. With the Panthers down 24-20, they scored the final six points to close the match and take their first SAA victory of the season.

Laird and Scott led the way with 10 kills while McKey added nine on the night. Laird and McKey also had 14 digs while Scott added 11. Zeigler had 18 assists and Laird had four total blocks. Errors killed the Majors all night as they committed 25 total to BSC's 16.

Millsaps returns to action on Friday as they travel to Conway, Ark. to take on the Hendrix Warriors. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and will be live on College TV Ticket.
