Box Score CONWAY, Ark. - The Millsaps Majors Volleyball Team traveled to Hendrix College as they looked to bounce back after dropping two straight games including their first Southern Athletic Association game on Wednesday. The Majors did just that, coming back strong to sweep Hendrix and pick up their first SAA win of the season and seventh overall.
Millsaps (7-2, 1-1 SAA) ran out to a quick lead, going up 11-6 in the first set thanks to kills from sophomore Caroline McKey and freshman Brooke Visoski, who made her first start of her career, as well as service aces for senior Raven Scott and junior Casey Brown.
The Majors continued their strong start as they extended their lead to 18-11 in the first set.
Hendrix (3-7, 1-1 SAA) fought back as they cut their deficit down to as little as one late in the set, but the Majors settled down and won the set thanks to a kill from senior Kasey Laird.
Millsaps and Hendrix went back and forth in set two as the Majors clinged onto a two point lead throighout the set. With the score at 16-14, the Majors went on to score the next four points thanks to kills by Laird, senior Sarah Zito, and freshman Alex Morphew along with a service ace from sophomore Taylor Zeigler.
The Majors took that momentum to score five of the next seven points to take set two, 25-16 and had the match in control.
Again, Millsaps took over set three, jumping all over the Warriors and going up 19-10. Hendrix was resilient as they chipped away at the lead and looked to get back into the match, but the Majors were too much as they put the game away and finished the match with a 25-22 win.
McKey led the team with 12 kills on the night along with 11 digs. Laird added 11 kills and three blocks while Scott added 10 kills and 18 assists. Visoski was also key in her first start with six kills and two blocks.
After struggling with errors two days ago against Birmingham-Southern, Millsaps really cleaned up their game on Friday night, only committing nine errors including an impressive 19 kills to only two assits in the second set for a .447 hitting percentage. Millsaps also had six service aces including two from both Brown and Scott.
The Majors head to Memphis as they are back in action tomorrow afternoon for an SAA match against Rhodes College followed by a non-conference game against Maryville. They will get things going at 11 against the Lynx before returning back to the court at 1 against the Scots. The Rhodes game can be seen live at College TV Ticket.
