Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Millsaps Majors were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they took on the Rhodes Lynx in Southern Athletic Association play followed by a non-conference match against the Maryville Scots. After splitting the first two sets, the Majors finished off the Lynx in four sets including a dominating fourth set to net their second SAA win of the season.
Millsaps (8-3, 2-1 SAA) exploded out of the gate after falling behind 1-0, scoring the next six thanks to kills by senior Raven Scott and sophomore Taylor Zeigler to go along with a service ace from sophomore Caroline McKey.
Rhodes (2-9, 0-2 SAA) settled in to get back into the first set, but the Majors responded with kills from McKey, senior Kasey Laird, and freshman Brooke Visoski to go up 12-8.
After the Lynx got the score to 13-11, the Majors went on to outscore Rhodes 12-5 to pull away and win the first set.
Rhodes responded as the two teams battled in a great second set, but the Lynx would even the set up, winning 25-21 as they scored the last four points to take the set.
The two teams went back and forth again in a pivotal third set. The Majors led most of the way, but Rhodes got within one at the Majors lead was cut to 21-20.
Millsaps finished strong as they scored four of the final five points thanks to kills by Laird and McKey to tak the set.
The Majors used that momentum to take complete control of the fourth set, jumping out to a dominating 17-4 lead. The Majors cruised to take the set 25-10 as they won the match.
Millsaps was terrific with 56 kills on the afternoon to go with only 14 errors (.318). The biggest highlight was the first and fourth set as the Majors only committed two errors in each set to go along with 27 total kills.
McKey led the way with 15 kills and 10 digs while Laird added 14 kills and 14 digs and Scott had 14 kills and a season-high 29 assists. Laird also added four service aces as well as three blocks.
The Majors went on to take on Maryville later in the afternoon and dropped a nail-biter, falling 29-27, 28-26, 24-26, 26-24.
Millsaps is back in action on Friday, September 21st as they return home to take on the Sewanee Tigers. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match can be seen on College TV Ticket.
