Box Score JACKSON - The Millsaps Majors Volleyball Team returned home on Friday to take on the Sewanee Tigers in Southern Athletic Association play. The Majors made quick work of the Tigers to improve to 3-1 in the conference, winning 25-14, 25-19, and 25-19.
After Sewanee (4-5, 1-3 SAA) scored the opening point, the Majors (9-3, 3-1 SAA) stormed out to a 13-2 lead as they got kills from senior Raven Scott, senior Kasey Laird, senior Sarah Zito, and freshman Brooke Visoski. The Majors cruised to a victory in the first set, 25-14.
The Tigers responded in the second set as the two teams were even at 11, but the Majors took the next three points thanks to a service ace from sophomore Kelley Caladro and a kill from Zito. Sewanee cut the deficit down to 15-14, but kills from Laird, Scott, and freshman Alex Morphew Millsaps on top 19-14.
Millsaps cruised to a 25-19 win in the second set and jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the third set as they continued to clear their bench. Sewanee fought back to tie the game at 17, but the Majors responded with the next three points thanks to a service ace from Scott and a kill from freshman Olivia Kleyer.
The Majors wrapped the match up as they scored the final four points to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Laird and Scott led the way for Millsaps with 11 kills each, while Laird added 19 digs and Scott added 14 assists. Making her first start of her career, freshman Laura Kilbury picked up 22 assists, while Zito, Laird, and Morphew all had two blocks.
The Majors return to action tomorrow as they take on the Centre Colonels in The Hangar Dome. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. and can be seen live on College TV Ticket.
