Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Millsaps Majors Volleyball Team took to the road on Friday night as they took on the Berry Viking in Southern Athletic Association play. Millsaps had its struggles in the game as they couldn't get any momentum going after winning the first set.
The first set was a tremendous back and forth battle as the Majors looked to take control early on. Berry looked as though they were on their way to a first set win as they went up 22-17. However, the Majors fired back with kills from seniors Kasey Laird, Raven Scott, and Sarah Zito as well as kills from sophomore Caroline McKey as they battled back to tie the set at 25.
The Majors (10-4, 4-2 SAA) got the next two points from Zito and a huge kill from Laird to take set one, 27-25.
However, the Vikings (11-3, 5-1 SAA) took over in the next two sets as the Majors could not get anything going, fall 25-11 in set two and 25-13 in set three.
Millsaps came into set four looking to even the game and go to a deciding set as the teams came out even throughout the set. But Berry took three staright points to take an 18-14 lead. The Majors came right back though as McKey came through with some huge kills to pull within one.
The two teams remained even all the way to 25, but Berry got the final two points to put the match the way and get a huge win that broke a tie in the SAA standing for second place.
The Majors got a great performance from Laird who had 13 kills to go along with 12 digs. Sophomore Taylor Zeigler had 14 assists and 10 digs. McKey added 12 kills while Scott had 8 kills, 20 assists, and 10 digs.
Millsaps is back in SAA action tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels at 12 p.m. Central Standard Time and 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in Atlanta.
