Box Score SAN ANTONIO- Beau Brady connected on his second field goal of the day, a 33-yarder with 12 seconds left, as the Millsaps Majors scored the game's final 10 points in a 27-24 win over the Trinity Tigers on Saturday.
The win moves the Majors to 5-0 on the season and avenges a 35-24 loss at the hands of their former conference rivals from a season ago.
The Majors defense rose to the occasion in the second half as Trinity had turned the field possession battle in their favor. The Tigers had four straight drives start in Majors' territory and walked away with zero points on a pair of missed field goals.
Millsaps tied the game in the fourth quarter on a Mike Barthelemy 49-yard touchdown run. The junior ran for 163 yards and a pair of scores to lead the Majors offense. The defense followed up with one of their best stands of the season. After the Tigers had driven inside the Majors' 10-yard line, the defense stood their ground and forced another field goal attempt. Dustin Harscher broke through the line to block the go-ahead field goal try and set up the Majors' final drive.
The Majors marched down the field behind Taz Watson and Barthelemy and a few timely completions from Zak Thrasher. The Majors milked the clock down to 12 seconds and Brady took care of business.
That left Trinity with little time and a lot of yardage needed. The Majors prevented history from repeating itself when Zach Bell sacked Stehpen Smith, forcing a fumble on the final play of the game. For Bell, that was his ninth sack of the season, which leads the Majors and the SAA.
Thrasher went 10-20 for 99 yards in the win, with one touchdown and one interception. The touchdown went to Zander Romano in the first quarter, a 26-yard strike that tied the game at 7-7.
The Majors ran for 271 yards, led by Barthelemy's 163 and Watson's 79.
The Majors look to continue avenging losses next weekend when they travel to Birmingham to take on the Birmingham Southern Panthers. Kickoff is set for 1pm on Saturday
