Box Score ATLANTA- The Millsaps Majors closed out regular season conference play with a four set win over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on Sunday.
The Majors won 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20 to move to 7-7 in SAA play. Millsaps got a double-double from Caroline McKey who had team highs in kills (18) and digs (17).
In the first set, the Majors withstood a late Oglethorpe charge that saw a 22-19 lead shrink to being tied at 23. The Majors closed out the set on kills by McKey and Courtney Huie to give Millsaps the early lead.
In the second set, the game saw a series of runs between the two teams. After the match was tied at 18, a key kill and block by freshman Susannah Williams gave the Majors an edge. Lexus Andrews closed out the set with a kill and the Majors owned a 2-0 lead.
The Petrels controlled the third set leading it nearly wire-to-wire in a 25-20 Oglethorpe win. The Petrels grabbed early momentum in the fourth only for it to be erased by a solid service run by Taylor Ziegler. The teams battled to an 18-18 tie when Casey Brown got an ace and the Majors' defense forced a pair of Petrel errors. The Majors grabbed control of the set from their and closed out the match at 25-20.
McKey was joined in double digit kills by Lexus Andrews (14) and Courtney Huie (11). Ziegler set them up, recording 40 assists to go along with eight kills and 16 digs of her own.
The Majors closed out the conference season at 7-7, they will host UT-Dallas and Belhaven next Saturday on homecoming. Matches are set for 10 AM and noon, senior day ceremonies for Casey Brown will be before the first match.
