Box Score JACKSON- The Millsaps Majors rode five aces and a solid all-around game in sweeping the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on Saturday night.
The win moves the Majors to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in SAA play, halfway through the conference slate.
The Petrels proved pesky through all three sets, holding four point leads in the first set at 18-14 and 20-16. Casey Brown fired an ace and Lexus Andrews had two kills to help spark the Major comeback. Andrews would later add an ace of her own to close out the set and give the Majors an early edge.
The second set featured the teams trading blows for the first half, the Majors took a timeout at 14 all. The timeout paid off as the Majors ripped off a 7-3 run to grab a 21-17 lead, again riding the serve of Brown and two kills from Olivia Kleyer. The Majors turned up the defense when Lexus Andrews served out the set, forcing four errors out of the Petrels.
The Majors controlled most of the final set, owning leads of 11-7, 16-12 and 22-17. The Majors withstood a mini-run by Oglethorpe to get within one at 18-17. Christina Tilton gave Millsaps a boost, with a service ace during a four-point run. Susannah Williams added the exclamation point with the final kill to seal the victory.
Lexus Andrews had 15 kills to lead the Majors and had a double double with 12 digs. Three Majors had double digit digs, led by Brown's 16.
The Majors take to the road next weekend, going to Hendrix and Rhodes. At Rhodes, the Majors will play the Lynx and Muhlenburg as part of the Rhodes Classic.
