Box Score JACKSON- Taz Watson ran for 143 yards and two scores and Mike Barthelemy ran for 115 and a score of his own in the Majors 48-37 win over the Hendrix Warriors.
The win moves the Majors to a perfect 4-0 on the season and perhaps more importantly, 1-0 in conference play.
In a game of runs, it was the Majors' striking first, an 11-yard strike to Charlie Strauss from Zak Thrasher on a slant passer marked the game's first score. Barthelemy did a lot of the heavy lifting on the drive, racking up 45 yards rushing.
Hendrix responded with 17 unanswered, taking advantage of a Thrasher interception along the way to take a 17-7 lead. The Majors struck back, responding with 14 unanswered to end the half. The Majors beat the buzzer, scoring with just three seconds left in the half on a Trevor King three-yard touchdown catch. Jeff Milner made the drive happen, giving Millsaps a short field with a crucial sack on the previous Hendrix drive.
John McDowell took the momentum back in the second half from an early Hendrix score, ripping off a 95-yard touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff. The Majors never looked back, King added a second score of the game to put the Majors up 34-24 and Watson added his rushing touchdowns to put the game away for good.
Thrasher was his usual steady self, throwing for 177 yards and three scores, two to King. Leading the defense was Zach Bell with eight tackles and two more sacks, giving him seven already on the season.
Millsaps heads to Trinity (TX) next weekend for their last non-conference game of the year, kick off is set for 1:30 next Saturday.
