Box Score ATLANTA-The Majors outlasted the Pirates of Southwestern (Texas), winning 16-14 in the fifth set to go 1-1 in the first day of the Emory Invitational.
It is a big win for the Majors who improve to 7-4, Southwestern was receiving votes in the latest national poll and fell to 7-3.
Millsaps battled back from down 22-19 to win the final six points of the first set and win 25-22. The Majors rolled off the run on the serve of Casey Brown. Southwestern got early momentum in set two going up 18-9 and eased into a 25-14 win.
Caroline McKey had some late key serves in set three to propel the Majors to a 25-21 win. McKey finished with a team high four aces and led the way with 13 kills and 23 digs.
A back-and-forth fifth set saw it tied at 14. With both teams needing two straight points, the Majors got a kill from Lexus Andrews to seal the win.
A tight match in every extent of the word, especially in the stat book. Both teams forced 23 errors and the total attack chances were 177-174 in favor of the Pirates. In the end, the Majors got 11 kills from Alex Morphew to help the offense and double digit assists from Taylor Ziegler and Mary Wilson.
The Majors are back at it tomorrow in day two of the Emory Classic.
