Box Score JACKSON- Mike Barthelemy and Taz Watson each went over 100 yards as the Majors improved to 3-0 with a 38-17 win over the Point University Skyhawks.
Mike Barthelemy ran officially for 116 yards and three scores while Watson ran for 109 and a touchdown of his own.
It was Point that struck first, using a 12-play, 75-yard drive to set up a touchdown pass to grab a 7-0 lead. The Majors would respond for 24 straight points, 17 in the first half. A pair of drives ending in a Barthelemy score were sandwiched by a touchdown pass to Raphael Johnson.
After a Point field goal, Watson got in on the action with a one yard score to stretch the lead to 31-10. Barthelemy added his third score and Point added a rushing score of their own in garbage time to round out the scoring.
Zak Thrasher was efficient once again, going 12-18 for 157 yards with a score and an interception. The pick didn't hurt the Majors because Jorrick Battle picked off a pass in the end zone to end the first half. The junior signal caller's efficiency led the Majors to convert 70 percent of their third downs (7/10) and their only fourth down conversion.
Point didn't do themselves any favors with 16 penalties for 122 yards. Several penalties kept Major drives alive and produced long fields on the Skyhawk offensive end.
The Majors could not have asked for a better start to 2013, with a 3-0 start and a bye week to close out September. Millsaps wraps up their three-game homestand in two weeks when they start SAA play against the Hendrix Warriors on October 5th. Kick off is set for 1pm.
