MONTGOMERY-Millsaps Majors golfer Lauren Durbin shot an opening round 82 (40-42) and is in third place, five shots back at the Huntingdon Intercollegiate on Sunday. 

"Lauren played really well and has a good shot with a solid round Monday," coach Brad Johnson said. "I know it rained alot but it didn't slow down the course, the greens were really fast."

Durbin is chasing a pair of Piedmont College golfers who shot 77 and 79 respectfully. Durbin's teammates battled through tough conditions and were led by Lauren Barattini who is tied for 29th after a round of 101 (49-52). Whitney Smith (54-59-113) and Ashley Cabeceiras (78-67-145) are in 36th and 39th place, respectfully. 

"I think everyone left a lot of shots out there because of that speed," Johnson said. "We are no exception, after getting a feel for the course, we are going to be better on Monday." 

The weather will allow for good scoring, with sunny skies and low 80 temps for the final round on Monday.
