JACKSON- The Millsaps Majors picked up a non-conference win, sweeping the Mississippi College Choctaws three sets to none (25-22, 25-23, 25-15) in the Majors' home opener. 

"It was a good win, it wasn't pretty at times, but it was a good win," said coach Jamie Fisher. "We have a young a team, I knew they would be nervous and excited to get a win in the opener."

The Majors battled out two hard fought sets to take control of the match against the equally young Choctaws. Taylor Zeigler fired an ace to clinch the first set after the Choctaws had cut the Majors' lead to 24-22. 

Millsaps jumped out early in the second set, grabbing a 10-6 lead before a run by Mississippi College tied the game at 13. Caroline McKey then rattled off four straight points to give the Majors a 17-13 lead. The Majors would ride out the service of Mary Wilson to capture the second set. 

"McKey was everything for us tonight," Fisher said. "She is someone we are going to ride all season long."

The Majors wasted little time in the third set, grabbing leads of 11-3 and 19-11 before closing out the match. Zeigler started things out with four straight service points to set the third set tone. 

"Zeigler was great tonight, whenever we needed a side out or a point, she was there for us," Fisher said. "She along with Alex Morphew are smart players from the outside and they were solid tonight."

Zeigler led the Majors with 17 assists, while Morphew led the charge with nine kills as the Majors moved back over the 500 mark at 3-2. 

The Majors now hit the road, travelling to a familiar foe in Birmingham Southern for an invitational. Millsaps will play Friday against Wesleyan at noon and Huntingdon at 4pm.
