Box Score BIRMINGHAM, AL- The Millsaps volleyball team split a pair of five set matches at the McAttack Bash hosted by Birmingham Southern. The Majors got by Sewanee in five before falling to the host Panthers in five.
BSC prevailed 14-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-10 to comeback and take the match. Lexus Andrews led the Majors with 11 kills over the five sets while Taylor Zeigler led the way with 17 helpers. Defensively, the Majors had 20 blocks, led by freshman Susannah Williams who had six.
In the first set, the Majors put on the afterburners, using an 11-3 run to pull away in the first set, winning easily at 25-14. The Majors rode hot serving from Caroline McKey and Mary Wilson during the spurt.
The second set saw a back-and-forth match until the Majors scored five of the last seven points to win 25-23. Lexus Andrews had a couple of kills and a key serve during the run.
Birmingham Southern turned the tide in the third set, using a 9-3 run to put away a game that was tied at 16. The fourth and fifth sets saw the Panthers get momentum early and rode that to the victory.
The Majors now sit at 5-3 on the year and travel to Atlanta next weekend to play in the Emory Classic. They play host Emory next Friday at 2pm.
