Box Score GEORGETOWN, TX- Caroline McKey became the 11th member of the Millsaps' 1000 kill and 1000 dig club Friday and helped the Majors to a two-match split at the Boo Classic hosted by Southwestern.
The Majors defeated Texas Lutheran in the afternoon in five sets winning 25-16, 18-25, 16-25, 25-14, 16-14 to move to 21-3 on the season.
The Majors erased a 2-1 set lead by the Bulldogs to earn the victory. McKey led the Majors with 15 kills in the match and entered the 1000-1000 club with her fifth kill of the match.
The Majors came into the match as the #2 team in D-III in digs per set and it was their defense that led the way in both matches. Against the Bulldogs, the Majors held TLU to a mere .060 hit percentage and were led by Ashley Zamjahn's 39 digs. Three Majors had at least 25 digs in the match.
Against Southwestern in the nightcap on Friday, Millsaps erased a two-set-to-none deficit but fell 15-10 in the deciding fifth.
Again, the Majors' defense led the way with Zamjahn again having a banner game with 35 digs, leading four Majors who had at least 20.
Offensively, Lexus Andrews had 14 kills to lead the Majors, who were facing the #1 D-III team in digs per set in Southwestern. Millsaps found their rhythym in sets three and four when they earned 29 of their 53 kills in the match, winning 25-15 and 25-20.
The split moves the Majors to 21-4 on the season. They will wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon against Texas-Dallas at 1:30.
