MAJORS FEND OFF COLONELS

Box Score

JACKSON, MS- Caroline McKey had 24 kills to lead the Millsaps Majors past a pesky Centre Colonel squad in four sets on Saturday in the Hangar Dome.

Millsaps won 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23 to improve to 14-1 on the season and 5-1 in the Southern Athletic Association.

McKey backed up her 24 kills with 18 digs to lead the Majors' defense that saw five different players register double-digit digs.

The Majors won the first set that was tooth and nail the entire time. Neither team had larger than a three point lead. Kills by McKey, Lexus Andrews and Payton Mansell came at opportune times to put the Majors in position to claim set one. Olivia Kleyer had a key kill late and the Majors' defense forced a Centre miscue to grab the first set.

Centre led wire-to-wire in set two, leading by double digits at one point in the set. Millsaps made a small run to get within six, but the Colonels won set two handily to knot the match at a set apiece.

Mary Wilson had a service ace and McKey and Andrews teamed up for a block to spark an early set three run for the Majors, who grabbed a six-point lead midway through the set. Centre would rally let, getting within two on a couple of occasions. Mansell and McKey each had kills down the stretch and the defense again forced a Centre miscue as the Majors won set three 25-21.

Millsaps was down by as many as four in the early part of set four. The Majors rallied on the service of Ashley Zamjahn who helped erase a 12-8 Centre lead and turned it into a 13-12 advantage for Millsaps. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the set, featuring three ties along the way. Kleyer and McKey each had kills to put the Majors up 23-21. Again, the Majors' defense held and a Centre miscue ended the match in four tough sets.

Millsaps now sits atop the SAA at 5-1 and 14-1 overall. They will take on Sewanee on Sunday in the Hangar Dome with a 1pm first serve.
