Box Score JACKSON, MS- The Millsaps Majors got a balanced all-around effort and swept the Rhodes Lynx for the second time this season on Saturday afternoon in the Hangar Dome.
The Majors won 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 to improve to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Millsaps was led by Caroline McKey with nine kills but five different players had at least five kills in the victory. Defensively, three players had double-digit digs, led by McKey's 14. The Majors' defense had four blocks and limited the Lynx to just a .028 hitting percentage.
The Majors broke open a tight first set with an 8-1 run to grab a 18-9 lead. Presley Stoltzfus had an ace and served out six of the eight points during the run that featured strong defense and a pair of Lexus Andrews' kills. Andrews would serve out the set, winning the final five points including an ace of her own as the Majors grabbed the early lead.
Millsaps wasted no time in grabbing a lead in set two, using a 12-3 run at the start of the set to take a 15-6 lead. Ashley Zamjahn had a key service run but it was the defense that sparked the rally, holding Rhodes to a negative hit percentage in the set. The Majors' defense flustered Rhodes all match long and the Lynx never got closer than eight points in set two.
In set three, continually led by four to five points throughout the set. Rhodes hung around, but never made a run to get any closer. Rachel Jackson had two key kills in the final stages of the set to put the Majors on the doorstep to the win. Kills by McKey and the game-winner by Sierra Burris put the match away for the Majors.
The win moves Millsaps to 12-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference. They will host SAA front-runner Hendrix tomorrow afternoon with a 1pm first serve.
