Majors go Unbeaten in Saturday Play, Extend Winning Streak to Three

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jackson, MS – The Millsaps volleyball team completed a Saturday sweep by winning two games in straight sets earlier today.

The Majors, who now have a three-game winning streak, came out focused and determined to continue their solid performance from last Sunday's win against Sewanee.  Against LeTourneau and Rhodes, the Majors earned double-header victories by a score of 3-0 in each game.

In the morning game against LeTourneau, the Majors earned a 3-0 victory with 44 total kills for the contest.  After trailing 1-0 in the first set, the Majors never looked back en route to a 25-16 win.  Millsaps totaled 17 kills in the first set, as freshman Ashlyn Raybon led the game with 11.

Millsaps never trailed in the next two sets, as they won 25-19 and 25-20 to close out a convincing first match win.  Conference defensive player of the week, Ashley Zamjahn led the Majors in digs with 23.

Today also marked the second straight game where Zamjahn played in the libero role for the Majors.

The early morning win improved the Majors to 9-9 on the year as the next game featured a conference rematch.

After defeating Rhodes in Memphis, Tennessee last month, the Majors hosted the Lynx for the second match of the day.  Today's rematch also featured two SAA players of the week with Majors sophomore Ashley Zamjahn and Rhodes freshman Ellen Platt.

The Majors never trailed in the first set against the Lynx as they won 25-14.  Millsaps totaled 12 first set kills as Lexus Andrews and Courtney Huie led the Majors with 15 and 13 for the contest.

In the second set, the Majors rallied down 15-13 by winning the next three points.  The positive momentum eventually tied the game for the Majors at 19-19.  Olivia Kleyer and Ashley Zamjahn scored the final three points of the set to give Millsaps a 25-22 win.

In the third set, Millsaps again came from behind to win.  Down 4-1 early in the fourth set, the Majors stormed back to eventually lead 21-15.  Holding off a late rally from Rhodes, the Majors won 25-19.

The third set win gave the Majors their second victory of the day.  Both of Saturday's wins finished off straight set victories for the Majors, as they have won six out of the last seven sets in the three game winning streak.

The Majors will look to continue the positive momentum from today's play, as they face another conference game tomorrow.

Next up for the Majors is another SAA rematch against Hendrix tomorrow (Oct. 11th) for a noon start.
