Women's Soccer secures Conference Win with 2 Second Half Goals

Box Score

Atlanta, GA – The Millsaps women's soccer team rebounded from Friday's loss by closing out a conference win on the road earlier today.

The 3-1 victory marks the first win in SAA play for the Majors as well as their first conference road win of 2015.  The monumental day for the Majors caps off a solid weekend effort as Millsaps improves to 3-10-1 on the year.

Today's contest featured multiple early scores in each half.  Bailey Turner finished off a pass from Katie Geiger to give Oglethorpe an early 1-0 lead.  The Stormy Petrels goal, occurring just 8 minutes into the game, started the scoring for the contest.

The Majors, however, quickly answered Oglethorpe's goal in just 60 seconds.  Senior Lindy Robichaux drilled an unassisted goal into the back of the net to draw the match even at 1-1.

Robichaux's goal closed out the scoring for the first half, as the Majors offense outshot Oglethorpe 12-5 in the first period of play.  The offensive pressure from the Majors created more scoring opportunities, as Millsaps returned from the halftime intermission focused and determined to win.

Senior midfielder Katie Sands finished a well-placed corner kick from Maria Welch to give the Majors their first lead of the day.  Sands' goal occurred in the 47th minute and gave Millsaps a 2-1 lead.

Forward Molly Ambrose sealed the victory for the Majors 13 minutes later on a long pass from Lindy Robichaux.  Ambrose launched a well-placed shot into the back of the net giving the Majors a 3-1 second half lead.

Defensively, the Majors held strong as starting goalkeeper Elise Davis totaled nine saves for the contest.  In shot totals, Millsaps finished the day with 23 while Oglethorpe totaled 13.

The Majors completed a solid Sunday effort to go 1-1 for the weekend.  They will look to use the positive momentum for the next series of home games starting this weekend.

Next up for the Millsaps women's soccer team is a home conference game this Friday, Oct. 16thagainst Sewanee for a 5:00 pm start.
