Box Score Jackson, MS – The Majors closed out the final weekend of regular-season home play with an emphatic victory over Sewanee earlier today.
Millsaps won in straight sets for the second time in two days while improving their record to 12-11 and 6-6 in conference play. Seniors
Olivia Kleyer and
Courtney Huie led the Majors in kills with 11 and 10 apiece. Today's loss drops Sewanee to 10-12 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
The first set, which featured seven ties and multiple lead changes proved to be the most intense of the day. After falling behind early 5-3 and 9-7 the Majors scored a flurry of points to earn a 25-13 first set victory. Millsaps totaled 14 kills for the first set win as well.
The Majors started the second set fast en route to a commanding 16-0 lead.
Lena Barrett led the way with serving throughout the first 16 points for the Majors.
Lexus Andrews and
Ashley Zamjahn were the only other servers in the rotation for the second set as the Majors earned a convincing 25-6 second set victory.
The third and final set featured 17 kills from the Majors as they won 25-15. After falling behind early 1-0, the Majors never looked back to win their second consecutive game in straight sets.
Mary Wilson led in assists for the Majors with 16 while
Ashley Zamjahn led in digs with 19. Today's game concluded the final home game of the regular season as the Majors went 2-0 for the weekend play.
Millsaps will travel for the final games to close out the month of Oct. Next up for the Majors is a conference road game against Berry next Saturday, Oct. 24th at 1:00 pm.
