Majors put Exclamation Point on Senior Day with Convincing 3-0 Win

Box Score Jackson, MS – The Majors made the most of Senior Day with a conference win earlier today against Centre.

The senior spotlight shined on Mary Allison Wilson, Olivia KleyerCourtney Huie, and Lexus Andrews as today marked the final Saturday regular season home game for the Majors.  Following a special pregame presentation for the seniors, the Majors took the floor to face another home conference game.  Having a great deal of energy and momentum, the Majors started fast en route to a convincing 3-0 win.

The first set featured 13 kills for the Majors as they began the game with an early 3-1 lead.  The Colonels later tied the game 9-9 to begin a back and forth series of points between the two teams.  That is, until the Majors opened up a flurry of points to lead 20-16.  The Majors never looked back after the 1st set rally as they won 25-20.

The Majors never trailed in the second set with a commanding total of 18 kills.  Overall, Courtney Huie led the Majors in kills with 12 while Lexus Andrews totaled 10 on the day.  Mary Wilson led the way in assists with 26 as Shelby Marsh also totaled 11.  Playing in the libero, Ashley Zamjahn again led the Majors in digs on the day with 27.

In the decisive third set, the Majors held off a late rally from Centre to win the match 3-0.  Holding an early 10-4 lead, Millsaps never trailed en route to a 25-19 third set win.  Millsaps totaled 14 kills in the third set as today's win improves them to an overall record of 11-11.

Equally important, today's win also improves the chances of the Majors increasing their positioning in the Southern Athletic Association.  Prior to today's game, Centre and Millsaps held nearly identical records.  With the home win today, the Majors improve to 5-6 in conference play.

Another solid showing in SAA play tomorrow could greatly help the Majors with seeding for the conference tournament held later this month.

Next up for Millsaps is a home game against Sewanee tomorrow, Oct. 18th for a 12:00 pm start.
