Box Score Danville, KY- The Majors volleyball team dropped their first game of the weekend against SAA opponent Centre College earlier today.
After splitting the first two games, the Majors fell in four sets to Centre, who improves to 9-8 on the season. The loss drops Millsaps to 7-9 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.
The Colonels gained a great deal of early momentum by leading in the first set 18-10. Beth Cecil led Centre in kills on the day with 12, as the Colonels closed out the first set winning 25-16.
Millsaps, however, would answer in the second set. After holding a lead of 15-4, the Majors never looked back en route to a 25-18 second set win. The Majors totaled 13 kills in the match-tying second set, asÂ
Lexus Andrews led Millsaps in total kills with 13 on the day.
The Colonels began the third set much like the first, by scoring on a flurry of early points. After falling behind 15-9, the Majors began their comeback efforts to even the score.
Sophomore Ashely Zamjahn led Millsaps in digs with 26 as the Majors cut the Centre lead to one point. Leading 24-23, the Colonels scored the final game-winning point on a kill from Beth Cecil to win the set 25-23.
The Colonels then won the fourth and final decisive set 25-12, thus leaving them the victor. The 3-1 victory improves Centre to 4-2 in conference play. The Majors will look to rebound tomorrow for another conference road game.
Next up for the Millsaps volleyball team is a road game at Sewanee in Tennessee. The Majors take on the Tigers tomorrow, Oct. 4th at noon for the final game in a five game road trip.
