Majors Fall in Regular Season Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Atlanta, GA – The Majors volleyball team fell in both games of their Saturday double header earlier today.
 
After a win on Friday against Bridgewater (Va.), the Majors dropped two games against Emory and Randolph-Macon.  Today's double-header completes the regular season for the Millsaps volleyball team as they finish with an overall record of 14-15 (7-7).
 
In the first game of the day, the Majors faced tournament host Emory University.  The Eagles totaled 48 kills on the day as they won in straight sets 3-0.  In the first set, the Majors and Eagles traded points in an intense back and forth matchup.  The Eagles, however, jumped out to a 20-16 lead.  From there, Emory never looked back to win 25-18.
 
Emory never trailed in the second set as they began with 21-10 lead.  The Majors started a rally, but the Eagles held off the comeback attempt to win 25-18.  Kathryn Trinka and Jessica Holler led the Eagles in kills with 14 and 10 each.
 
Becky Breuer led in digs with 15 for Emory as they won the third and final set 25-21.  Lexus Andrews led the Majors in kills and digs (seven kills, 12 digs).  Mary Wilson again led the Majors in assists with 12 while Lena Barret and Andrews led in blocks with three each.
 
The Majors fell in the first game of the day as they began their second game of the double header against Randolph-Macon.  The first set featured an intense back-and-forth game where the Majors trailed 21-16.  Millsaps rallied to tie the game 22-22, however, Randolph-Macon responded to win the first set 25-23.
 
Millsaps responded well in the second set by winning 25-23.  The Majors totaled their highest amount of 'team kills' in the second set with 15 as well.  Overall, Millsaps finished with 47 total kills while Randolph-Macon finished with 54.
 
In the third set, Randolph-Macon started fast with a flurry of points.  The quick start for Randolph-Macon gave them a 16-4 third set lead.  The Yellow Jackets never looked back in the third set as they won 25-17.
 
The fourth and final set proved to be much like the first two sets, intense and close.  The Yellow Jackets trailed only twice, but the Majors rallied throughout the entire game.  Trailing at one point 22-16, the Majors mounted a comeback rally tie the game 23-23.  Randolph-Macon again responded by winning the final two, decisive points.
 
Courtney Huie and Lexus Andrews led the Majors in kills with 11 while Mary Milson totaled three aces.  Ashley Zamjahn continued her excellent defensive play by recording 30 digs for the contest.  Mary Wilson also led in assists with 25 while Lexus Andrews and Ashlyn Raybon totaled four blocks apiece.
The Majors complete the regular season with an overall record of 14-15 and 7-7 in conference play.  The Majors have the fourth overall seed heading into conference tournament play next week.  The Southern Athletic Association postseason tournament will be held at Hendrix College Nov. 6th-8th.
 
First round action for the Majors will be against fifth seeded Centre College next Friday, Nov. 6th at Hendrix College.
