Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps volleyball team began the week with a successful conference win over Sewanee on Sunday.
The 3-1 win over the Tigers completed a five-game road trip for the Majors, which included four conference games. Millsaps went 3-2 for the series of away games, as the Sunday win improves them to 8-9 overall and 3-4 in SAA play.
Sunday's intense win featured four different competitive sets. The Majors won the first two sets 25-23 before the Tigers won the third set 25-22. Millsaps later closed out the match with a 25-20 fourth set win.
Although the Tigers tied the first set twice, the Majors never trailed to start the game. A come from behind second set win and a convincing fourth set win that once had the Majors up 15-4 finished a successful Sunday conference game.
Senior
Lexus Andrews led Millsaps in kills on the day with 17. Additionally, Senior
Courtney Huieand sophomore Reagan Riddle had 14 and 15 kills for the contest.
Sophomore
Ashley Zamjahn led the Majors in digs with an impressive total of 35 on the day. Sophomore Presley Stolzfus and
Lexus Andrews also totaled 13 digs each. In block assists,
Regan Riddle and
Lexus Andrews combined for five total against the Tigers.
Sunday's win sets up a full slate of weekend games for the Majors starting this Saturday. The weekend will include a non-conference game against LeTourneau and two conference rematches against Rhodes and Hendrix.
LeTourneau, a member of the American Southwest Conference, comes into the Hangar Dome at Millsaps with an overall record of 5-13. Their most recent win occurred last Saturday at home against Centenary College. The 3-1 victory sets up a six-game road trip for LeTourneau, as they face Belhaven prior to Saturday's game against the Majors.
Rhodes and Hendrix also come to Millsaps for the weekend slate of games. After playing nearly three weeks ago, the Majors and Lynx face off again for another conference matchup.
The Lynx are 8-10 on the year with a conference record of 2-5. They are currently on a three-game winning streak with a recent road victory against Berry College in five sets 3-2. Saturday's game marks the fourth game in a seven-game road trip for the Lynx as well.
Sunday's game features another SAA rematch, as the Hendrix Warriors travel from Conway, Arkansas to take on the Majors. The Warriors come into this weekend's play on a seven-game winning streak.
Millsaps and Hendrix last faced off in Conway on Sept. 27th where the Warriors won 3-0. Hendrix holds an overall record of 13-6 and are unbeaten in SAA play.
The Majors will look to use the positive momentum from Sunday's win to face the three tough opponents this weekend.
Millsaps faces LeTourneau first on Saturday, Oct. 10th at 11 am. Following the game against LeTourneau, the Majors take on Rhodes for a 3 pm start.
Sunday closes out the weekend action for the Majors, as they take on Hendrix in a conference rematch Oct. 11th at noon.
