Box Score Mt. Berry, GA – Berry College scored two goals in the first half en route to a 3-1 win over the Millsaps men's soccer team earlier today.
The win improves Berry to 4-4-2 on the year while the Majors drop to 8-3. The five and a half hour trip spanning over 300 miles marks the second conference road game of 2015 for the Majors.
Junior Alex Rotoloni and freshman Steven Moore scored in the first half to give Berry a 2-0-halftime lead. The two goals continued a solid effort from the Vikings to make the most of their offensive chances.
"Berry was clinical in front of the goal today," Head Men's Soccer Coach
Steve Voltz said. "We got ourselves in too deep of an early hole, Berry was more efficient in front of the goal."
The Majors cut the Berry lead in half just four minutes into the second half of play.
Javier Garcia's goal on an assist from Nico Roth in the 49th minute gave the Majors some momentum, but Berry answered.
Steven Moore added another score for the Vikings in the 78th minute, as Berry went on to earn a 3-1 conference win. Today's win at Ford Field marked the first conference win for Berry, as the Majors fall to 2-1 in SAA play.
The Majors gave a solid effort, but could not comeback from the early 2-0 deficit.
"The effort was there today, but we have to more efficient in front of the goal," Coach Voltz said. "Berry deservedly got the win, we just need to be sharper defensively."
In shot totals, both teams were nearly even as Berry outshot the Majors 12-10. Both goalkeepers equaled the same amount of saves with five as well.
The Majors will look to rebound with another conference game on the road this Sunday, Oct. 11th. Next up for the Majors is a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to face Oglethorpe University for a 1:30 start.
