Holly Springs, MS - The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team fell earlier tonight on the road against Rust College by a score of 48-42.
Tuesday's instate matchup marked the second time the Majors and Bearcats faced each other this season as Rust outscored Millsaps 28-17 in the second half to earn the 48-42 victory. The Bearcats scored 22 points off of 29 Majors turnovers and outscored the Millsaps bench 20-2. Rust also went 5-26 for three-pointers while the Majors went 0-9. The loss drops Millsaps to 2-3 on the young season.
After taking the lead in the second quarter on an 8-1 run, the Majors held a 25-20-halftime lead. Rust, however, mounted a come from behind rally in the second half.
Trailing 36-31 early in the fourth quarter, Rust went on a 13-4 run to take the lead. The late Rust lead marked their first since the second quarter. The Majors attempted to end the run by Rust on a layup from
Kasi Matthews; however, a Brittany Williams three-pointer sealed the game - and victory for the Bearcats.
Millsaps finished the game shooting 30.2 percent from the field (16-53) while Rust shot 26.2 percent (17-65). The Majors outscored the Bearcats for points in the paint 30-22 while Rust outscored Millsaps on second chance points 17-12.
Senior
Miah Brooks led the Majors in scoring and earned a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman
Braxton Thomas also earned a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while also blocking three shots.
The Majors will look to rebound this weekend as they return home to begin a series of three consecutive games played at the Hangar Dome. First up is a rematch against Centenary College.
