Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team defeated Centenary College earlier tonight by a score of 80-55.
Tonight's convincing win keeps Millsaps Women's Basketball undefeated at home and also marks the most points Millsaps has scored in a single game this season. The Majors shot 61 percent from the field by going 29-47 and 42 percent for three-pointers by going 6-14. Junior
Kala-Jewel Freeman earned a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds (three offensive boards, nine defensive). The Majors convincing win begins a series of three consecutive home games before heading into Winter Break.
The Majors only trailed once en route to their third win of the season tonight. After a quick Centenary three-pointer to open the game, the Majors answered with a flurry of first quarter of points. The early answer and lead gave Millsaps a great deal of positive momentum as they finished the first half on a 10-2 run.
Leading 46-33, the Majors never looked back. Millsaps shot a phenomenal 70 percent from the field in the second half to earn the out-of-conference victory. Tonight's contest also marked a rematch between the Majors and Ladies from earlier in Nov. where Centenary earned the victory.
Senior
Beverly Holmes gave the Majors a boost in three-point shooting by going 4-8 on the night. Holmes ended with a season high 15 points and five rebounds while freshman
Braxton Thomas finished close behind with 13 points. Several Majors were close to double-doubles as tonight's team win puts Millsaps at .500 on the year.
The Majors will look to use the positive momentum for another out-of-conference home game next week. Millsaps Women's Basketball will face another SCAC rematch, this time against Austin. The Majors will face the Roos next week, Dec. 16th at home for a 3:00 pm tip off.
