Box Score Birmingham, AL – The Majors volleyball team fell earlier today to Birmingham Southern in three sets.
Despite a late push in the third set, the Majors fell in the first game of conference play. The loss drops Millsaps to a record of 4-6 on the year, as the Panthers of Birmingham Southern improve to an overall record of 8-1.
Today marked the first conference game for the two SAA teams, as the Panthers started the game with a first set win and never looked back.
In the first set, the Panthers got out to a fast start by scoring the first 13 points of the game. From there they never trailed as the Panthers won the first set 25-16.
The Majors led early in the second set, but a rally from Birmingham Southern gave them an 11-4 lead. The Panthers never looked back as they closed out the second set 25-18.
In the third and final set, the Majors started to make a late push. After falling behind 5-2, the Majors won the next five points. The back-and-forth intense set saw six ties and several lead changes as the Majors attempted to hold on to a 20-15 lead.
The Panthers, however, came from behind to win the close game with a final score of 25-23.
Ashley Zamjahn and Olivia Kleyer led the Majors in kills with 14 and 13 each, as Jeneva Salter led the Panthers with 12 kills.
The Majors return home this weekend for another SAA conference matchup.
The Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe travel to the Hangar Dome this weekend for an 11:00 am game on Saturday, Sept. 19th.
