Box Score Jackson, MS – The Majors volleyball team started off Millsaps Family Weekend in the best way possible, by winning a conference home game in straight sets.
The 3-0 win marks the fifth of the season for the Majors, as they defeated Oglethorpe University earlier today.
Today's victory comes at an opportune time, as Millsaps returned to the Hangar Dome after a road loss against Birmingham Southern. Given the importance of Southern Athletic games, especially those played at home, the Majors delivered today for a convincing 3-0 win.
The most convincing margin of victory occurred in the first half where the Majors won 25-2. Sophomore Ashley Zamjahn led the Majors in kills for the day with 11, as the Majors started fast and never looked back.
The second set proved to be much closer as Oglethorpe began by leading 10-6. Following an 11-11 tie the Majors began a flurry of points, which led to a 20-13 lead. The Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe began a rally of their own as the Majors led 24-20
Needing only one more point to secure a second set win, Sophomore Regan Riddle removed all doubt on a final kill (Regan Riddle on the assist).
The Majors followed up the intense second set win by winning the third and final set 25-10.
Today's victory improves the Majors to 5-6 on the year, as they will look to use the momentum for another SAA weekend matchup.
Next up for the Majors is an SAA matchup against Berry at the Hangar Dome tomorrow, Sept. 20th at 2 pm.
