Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps women's soccer team fell in their conference opener earlier today.
The 2:30 pm start at Harper Davis Field marked the first conference game for the Majors as they fell 3-0 to the Panthers of Birmingham Southern.
All of the game's scoring occurred in the second half as the Panthers outshot the Majors 17-5. The Panthers got on the scoreboard early from an own goal from the Majors.
The unlucky play got the scoring started for the Panthers just seven minutes into the second half of play.
Julia Giggie added another goal eight minutes later on a pass from Nicole Newton to increase the Panthers lead 2-0. Nicole Newton added another goal (Avery Newcomb on the assist) with 10 minutes remaining in the second half to give Birmingham Southern a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers won the physical contest 3-0, as both teams equaled the same amount of fouls at 13 a piece.
The Majors fall to 2-6-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference play while the Panthers improve to 6-3 (1-0).
Next up for Millsaps is another game at Harper Davis Field against local rival Belhaven University. The mid-week game is set for Wednesday, Sept. 30th at 7 pm.
