Box Score Memphis, TN – Following an emotional and intense five set game earlier in the week, the Majors earned a convincing 3-0-conference win today.
The SAA matchup featured a road game played at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Millsaps, who improves to 7-7 on the year, only trailed once in the third set en route to a victory over Rhodes in straight sets.
Sophomore Ashley Zamjahn started the first set scoring on a kill (Mary Wilson on the assist). From there, the Majors never trailed, as they started the game leading 17-5.
The Lynx began a comeback rally to bring the score to 23-18, but the Majors were able to hold off the late rally on two errors by Rhodes. The 25-18 first set win gave the Majors a 1-0 lead.
Millsaps never looked back as they won the next two sets 25-15 each. Rhodes began a come from behind rally in the second set to tie the score at 11-11. Millsaps, however, was able to answer the challenge by winning nine of the next 11 points scored.
The Majors fell behind early in the third set by a score of 3-2. The Majors answered the early deficit by scoring 12 unanswered points to lead 13-4. After the flurry of points the Majors never looked back as they won the match 3-0.
Senior Olivia Kleyer led the Majors in kills for the contest with 11 while sophomore Ashley Zamjahn led Millsaps in digs with 19.
The Majors improve to 2-2 in conference play while the Lynx fall to 0-4. Millsaps will travel again for another SAA matchup tomorrow in Conway, Arkansas.
Next up for the Majors is a road game against fellow SAA opponent Hendrix tomorrow morning, Sept. 27th at 11 am.
