Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps men's soccer team fell in their second loss of the season earlier today against Emory University.
Emory, who is a perennial contender for the NCAA Tournament, continued a four-game winning streak by defeating the Majors 2-0. The win for Emory also snaps a six-game win streak for Millsaps.
Freshman Moustafa Khattab scored his second goal of the weekend while senior Sebastian Hardingon scored his first en route to a 2-0 victory.
The win drops Millsaps to 6-2 on the year as neither team could generate much offense in the scoreless first half.
The second half, however, proved to be much different as the Eagles scored seven minutes into the second period of play.
Following a counter attack, junior Jason Andrejchak completed a string of passes to freshman Moustafa Khattab. Khattab completed Andrejchak's pass on a left footed shot that scored the first goal of the game.
Down 1-0, the Majors began to push more pressure on offense, but could not generate any goals.
"Not clever enough offensively in the defining moments of the game," Head Coach Steve Voltz said. "The effort was there, but emotionally and tactically we have to be more clever."
Senior Sebastian Hardington scored an unassisted goal in the final three minutes to secure a win for Emory, improving them to 5-3-1. The Eagles outshot the Majors 13-7 on the day, as the Majors totaled three saves. Both teams nearly equaled in foul totals as Emory finished the day with 11 and Millsaps finished with 12.
Today's tough game featured a matchup against preseason nationally ranked Emory University. The Majors fought hard all game, but fell 2-0.
"I'm proud of the effort we showed today," Coach Voltz said. "We have to continue to improve if we want to play at the highest regional and national levels."
The Majors will look to regroup this week on the road against local rival Belhaven University.
The away game will take place just down the road on Riverside Drive for a 7 pm start this Wednesday, Sept. 30th.
