Majors Volleyball Comes Up Short in Final Day of Tournament

Belton, TX – After two hard fought games, the Majors volleyball team fell in the final day of the Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitational.

The tournament hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor proved to be a tough two-days for Millsaps as they dropped their final games of the weekend.

The Majors first game of the day took place against Hardin Simmons University.  The game was arguably the most intense of the tournament, as Hardin-Simmons won the closely contested match 3-2.

The match marks the longest of the year for Millsaps as they began by winning the first set 25-17.  The second set proved to be the most contested of the match as the Majors narrowly lost by a score of 25-23.  Following a third set victory by the Majors, Hardin-Simmons was able to rally by winning the final sets 25-19 and 15-7.

Corrie Hall led Hardin-Simmons in kills with 18 on the day.  For the Majors, Olivia Kleyer and Courtney Hule led in kill totals with eight each.  The five set match marked one of the most hard fought and intense of the weekend as it improved Hardin-Simmons to a record of 1-2.

The second match of the day took place against Tigers of East Texas Baptist University.  After another hard fought match, the Majors fell as the Tigers won in four sets 3-1.

The Majors were able to win the first set of the match 25-21 as the Tigers came back to win the second in a tiebreaker 28-26.  The Tigers then took a 2-1 lead in the match by winning an intense back-and-forth third set 25-22.  The Majors were not able to mount a comeback as the Tigers closed out the game in the final set 25-14.

Saturday's loss drops Millsaps to a record of 1-4 on the young season as all of their first five games have been played on the road.  The Majors will look to get back on track for their home opener next weekend as they host the Millsaps Invite.

The weekend's first slate of games are set to take place this Friday, Sept. 11th.
