JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps Women's Volleyball will be hosting a Volleyball tournament featuring Centre College (10-10, 7-3), Austin College(14-10, 5-5), and Sewanee(8-10, 2-8) as adversaries this weekend.
With the Majors(4-12, 1-8) winning their last two home games, they are hoping to keep making home fans happy with a chance to win the last three home games of the season. The Majors are in the midst of their best competitive stretch of the season, standing at 8-8 in their last 16 sets over 4 games, including arguably their best performance of the year in a comeback win against rival Belhaven.
Millsaps is led on defense by perennial defensive player of the week nominee, libero Ashley Zamjahn, who is leading the team averaging 4.88 digs per set. Offensively, Morgan Vincent, Regan Riddle, and Erica Bennett, have led the way all year, making up for over seven kills per set. Another vital player to the Majors' gameplan is setter Shelby Marsh, who leads the team with 345 assists on the year and 5.85 assists per set.
Up first this weekend on Saturday, Oct. 15 is Centre College at 11a.m., tied for third place team in the SAA. Their players to watch are defensive specialist, Morgan Babey, who has 347 digs on the year and Hailey Foote who averaged 2.68 kills per set.
Up next, two hours later, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. is Austin College, a non-SAA conference participant in the tournament. Their offensive leader is Presleigh Watson, averaging 2.88 kills per set and defensive leader is Madi McVay who has racked up 390 digs on the year.
The next day, the Majors take the court one last time against Sewanee, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. Players to look out for are Diamond Stewart on offense, their team leader in kills and Sara Jayne Sutton on defense, their team leader in digs.
Earlier this season, Millsaps dropped their respective road games against Sewanee and Centre, and are seeking out vengeance for those early season losses in front of their home crowd this weekend.
