Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – In a home conference game with much at stake, the Millsaps Men's Soccer team drop the game to Oglethorpe University that would've put them at #1 in the SAA conference.
In this game, Millsaps(8-7, 4-2) had a number of unfortunate referees calls not go their way, resulting in multiple free kicks by Oglethorpe in the first half. Between the frustrating calls and really quality opponent in #1 SAA ranked Oglethorpe, Millsaps was not able to overcome the challenge faced on Sunday afternoon. Coach Voltz felt it was a tough game against a quality opponent where they just had a rough outcome.
In the match, Millsaps attempted 13 shots and three shots on goal to Oglethorpe's 14 shots and 3 shot on goal. Millsaps dominated the stat sheet in corner kicks, out corner kicking them 6 to 0. Overall, the match was fairly evenly matched with the goals and end results not working out to Millsaps' favor.
Nico Roth led the way with three shots and one on goal, Tore Schütt and Jan Bergk were behind him with two shots as well. Steve Chrobok, Alex Bourland, Matt Crooker, Gabriel Ryce and John Overton all got on the board with shots as well.
Today the Majors also honored their eight seniors, Jonathan Huebbe, Jan Bergk, Taylor Hayes, Gregory Hurley, Javier Garcia, Steven Chrobok, Matt Crooker, and Carson Hughes before the game with a ceremony. Coach Steve Voltz was happy that the team got to honor their seniors however lamented on the fact that they couldn't pull out the great win on their special day.
