Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Millsaps Men's Soccer pulls clutch one out vs. Birmingham-Southern(9-5-1, 3-3-1) on the road to clinch the number two seed in the SAA conference.
The Majors went on the road for a tough test and important game in terms of conference standings and were up for the challenge, playing BSC in a close match until finally pulling away to win in the second overtime. Matt Crooker scored the game winning goal in 2OT and Jonathan Huebbe added another shutout win to his resume.
Coach Steve Voltz was happy for his team to go pull out a tough win on the road and finish the regular season strong, especially his defense. The Majors only allowed three shots on goal and pitched a shutout, with one save by Huebbe coming on a free kick late in regulation.
On offense, Nico Roth, Taylor Hayes, Tore Schutt, Steve Chrobok, Alex Bourland, Dmitri Staursky, John Overton, and Javier Garcia all attempted shots, with Roth, Chrobok, Bourland, and Staursky landing shots on goal. Matt Crooker saved the day with his only shot being the game winner in 2OT to give Millsaps the victory.
This win locks Millsaps into the number two seed heading into the SAA tournament and ensures them home field advantage against Sewanee next week. Coach Voltz hopes to take the momentum from this game into the conference tournament next week.
