JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps Women's Volleyball will be competing in The 2016 Centenary Halloween Volleyball Tournament this weekend in Shreveport, LA. The Majors (6-17) face off against non-conference foe Mills College (0-15) on Friday, Oct. 28 then Austin College (19-13) and LeTourneau College (8-21) on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The Majors are coming off of another classic, five set throwdown with their neighboring rival Belhaven, this time falling to the Blazers to tie the season series this year. Before that, the Majors fell to Oglethorpe on the road in a tight, five set match as well.
Millsaps is led on defense by perennial defensive player of the week nominee, libero Ashley Zamjahn, who is leading the team averaging 5.55 digs per set. Recently, the Majors have been led by the strong play of Payton Passantino, Regan Riddle, and Erica Bennett and Susannah Williams on offense. They've led the Majors in blocks and kills over the past few games. Also starting for the Majors is setter Shelby Marsh, who continues to rack up the assists game after game, now leading with 573 assists and 6.74 assists per set.
Up first this weekend on Friday is Mills College, a team still seeking their first victory on the season. They are led by Vivian King on defense, who averages 4.42 digs per set. They're led by Emma Rigby on offense who averages 1.18 kills per set.
Next up is repeat opponent Austin College. Millsaps last faced Austin two weeks ago at home and lost that game 0-3. Austin was led in the game by Presleigh Watson who had 11 kills and six digs in that performance.
A few hours later, Millsaps will face LeTourneau, their final opponent of the weekend. They will be led by kills per set leader Dolores Henson and digs per set leader Kelsie Jeffries.
