JACKSON, Miss-- Men's Soccer wins over Sewanee: University of the South(7-10) in the quarterfinals of the SAA Tournament in overtime 3-2.

 

The Majors (11-7) got off to a quick start, with Nico Roth scoring the first goal of the game within the first 30 minutes with the assist by Alex Bourland and Steven Chrobok to put Millsaps up 1-0 at the half. Nico Roth scored the next goal on a beautiful free kick from about 25 yards out, giving the Majors a comfortable 2-0 lead with around 30 minutes left in regulation. Sewanee then scored at the 63 minute mark to make it 2-1. Then on a controversial foul call in the waning seconds of regulation, Sewanee was awarded a penalty kick with a chance to tie the game with 6 seconds left on the clock. Kyle Johnston scored the PK for Sewanee and the game headed into overtime. Overall was knotted at 2-2 until the last minute when Alex Bourland put in a clutch shot to give the Majors the win.

 

In this game, Millsaps outshot Sewanee 25-15 and outdid them in corner kicks 6-2. Taylor Hayes, Tore Schütt, Dimitri Staursky, and Matt Crooker all attempted shots on goal.

Coach Steve Voltz thought the Majors showed a lot of resilience to overcome a very late penalty call to send the game to OT and needs the team to continue to stay focused for the whole 90 minutes, especially when in good position to win in regulation.
