Box Score JACKSON, MISS. – In a rivalry game in front of a ferocious home crowd, the Millsaps Majors women's volleyball team(4-10) came roaring back from down 0-2 to win 3-2 against the Belhaven Blazers(7-11).
This win marks the second consecutive win for the Majors and the first such streak of the year. This win also marks six consecutive victories over the Blazers, with the last one taking all five sets to decide just like tonight's win.
Individually, the Majors received great performances across the board from their major contributors. Setter Shelby Marsh racked up 56 assists and and 14 digs. Six different Majors were aggressive and recorded over 17 total attacks, with Regan Riddle leading the way with 53 attacks. Erica Bennett led all players with 21 kills, she was closely followed by Riddle who had 19 kills. Morgan Vincent had 12 kills, Susannah Williams and Lena Barrett also had six and four kills respectively.
Ashley Zamjahn contributed heavily on defense with 34 digs, tying for the game high. Meredith Gates also contributed 20 digs, Vincent put in 11 and Bennett had ten digs.
As a team, the Majors got down early, losing the first set 16-25 then the second 24-26, but fought back, escaping the next set at the last minute 27-25, then winning the next two sets 25-18 and 15-11.
The crowd was raucous and the building was energetic throughout the game as the game contained many back and forths and was highly entertaining.
The Majors next outing will be away in Memphis at Rhodes College on Oct. 7 at 6:00p.m. They'll be looking for their first three game win streak of the season and second straight conference win of the year.
