Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. – Despite a late scoring run by Millsaps football at Centre on Saturday, Oct. 8, they ultimately fall short of victory, losing 40-21 to the Centre Colonels. This loss drops Millsaps football to 0-2 in conference play and 1-4 on the season.
Despite the large deficit, the Majors offense still put up respectable offensive numbers against Centre's defense, achieving 19 first downs with 184 yards passing and 137 yards rushing for 321 yards of total offense. Millsaps nearly equaled Centre in time of possession, first downs, and third down conversion rate to keep pace with Centre in a blowout loss.
Starter Chance Clowers had a rough day at the office, only completing four of his 18 passing attempts and throwing three interceptions. However, Ty Proctor came in the game and had much better luck at the helm, completing five of ten passing attempts for 127 passing yards and a touchdown. Rashad Sims ran the ball well, averaging 7.2 yards per carry for 72 yards on ten attempts. Taz Watson also got going on the ground with 13 rushing attempts for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Rashad Sims took one long touchdown to the house, adding a 72 yard touchdown reception to his day for a prolific 128 yards receiving as well.
Defensively, Jared Bullock led the team for the second game in a row as he racked up 15 solo tackles. Malcolm Ben was right behind him with ten tackles and one pass breakup. CJ Coleman also had eight tackles.
Centre dominated most of the game, with Millsaps finally finding their footing in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach, scoring all 21 points within the last 12 minutes of the game. Cal Lewellyn of Centre recorded all three of the interceptions by Clowers on the day.
The Majors will be returning home for the first time in two weeks against Birmingham-Southern on Oct. 15.
