Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. – Millsaps Men's Soccer finishes play in the SAA Conference Tournament in the Title Match, losing to Centre College 0-2.
As the second seed coming off two big wins over Sewanee and Berry to advance to finals, the Majors were facing fourth seeded Centre who upset one seed Oglethorpe in the semifinals.
In the game, Centre got on the board early, scoring within the first five minutes. The Majors from that point on dominated the rest of the half in possession, shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks but still trailed 0-1. The first half was very chippy, five yellow cards being given out for aggressive play. The Majors held Centre down for long before ultimately relenting another goal at the 80 minute mark that effectively sealed the game.
Coach Steve Voltz was very happy with the teams effort in this game and overall for the entire season. Though disappointed in how it ended, credit is due to Centre for how good they were in the tournament and how opportunistic they were with their chances in front of the goal. Coach Voltz felt the Majors did a good job creating their own opportunities in front of the goal but unfortunately fell short at capitalizing on those opportunities.
Millsaps outshot Centre at the goal 23 to seven, six on goal to four on goal. Majors led in corner kicks 11 to zero. Johnathan Huebbe made two saves on the afternoon.Tore Schütt led all Majors with seven shots and three shots on goal. Nico Roth, Steven Chrobok, and Alex Bourland all registered three shots, and Taylor Hayes and Matt Crooker put up two shots a piece.
Tore Schütt and Nico Roth were named to the All-Tournament team after their strong showings in the tournament. Schütt had two big goals against Berry in the semifinals on Friday. Roth had two goals against Sewanee in the quarterfinals.
With 51 wins, this was the most successful senior class in Millsaps Men's Soccer history!
